“Marietta Johnson Memorial”

This three-figure bronze by Frances J. Neumann, Barbara Casey, and Richard Arnold, was commissioned in Fairhope, Alabama to honor Marietta Pierce Johnson (1864-1938), a proponent of a unique philosophy of progressive education, and a contemporary of Rudolf Steiner and Maria Montessorri. In 1907 Mrs. Johnson founded the School of Organic Education, an academy that had no examinations, no homework, and no possibility of any child ever failing. The Marietta Johnson Museum installed the sculpture in a Fairhope park in October 2008.
